The intermittent musings of a pedantic public defender...

Dear Mr. Feige,
I have been reading Mr. Greenfield's blog, Simple Justice, where he sets out the facts in this case and your courageous act of providing an affidavit setting out the facts of your representation. I am impressed with your integrity and your willingness to try to see that justice be done.
You are an inspiration to all of us. I have been a lawyer for approximately 31 years here in Texas, where I have specialized in Criminal Law. I have been a litigator, an appellate lawyer, a prosecutor and a defense attorney. The stance you have taken to try to see that justice is rendered in this case is one that is rare because the consequences for the lawyer can be severe. You are truly a hero.
Thank you.
Pam
I commend you for stepping up and taking responsibility for this; few would, whether they were lawyers or in some other line of work where the consequences could be severe.
That being said, is it any wonder the average citizen has such little regard for the court system, given the existence of this unwritten "wink and nod" policy?
I have to agree with the comments above. It is a rare lawyer in any practice area who would take on a judge that way. I have to ask myself what I might have done in a similar situation.
Now that I am posting, I must also thank you for your book "Indefensible" and tell you how much I enjoyed reading it. I know it was must-reading for everyone at the Defender Association of Philadelphia when I was there.
Best, Jamison Koehler
Mr. Feige:
I just did a piece on my own site on this story that I thought you might appreciate.
